When church became irrelevant

America was once considered a Christian nation, but it is actually a “post-Christian” nation now. Just mentioning a church to people, triggers all kinds of repressed emotions. Studies say though that Gen Z is actually quite spiritual and 80% are willing to change their views.

I feel quite qualified to speak on this topic, because I was also a kid that had to go to church with their parents every Sunday. The difference is I am still a Christian. Of my own free will. NOT because it was forced on me. And that is exactly why I made this series.

The reason why many people stopped going to church around college is because:

  • 1. they are no longer forced to
  • 2. secondary education promotes the idea that God and science can’t co-exist
  • 3. most importantly, the faith wasn’t really internalized for many of them

Many people may want to fight me on this, but facts are facts. I’ve spoken to too many people who haven’t even read the Bible for themselves and will curse out the church and everything it stands for. I’m sorry, but if any kind of spirituality is important to you, then you need to research it yourself.

Parents are a great resource if they actually raise their kids. But ultimately it doesn’t matter, because your belief system is your personal responsibility.

The Bible- God’s Word

My first video is about finding God and using the Bible to do so. I do not spell out the history of when the Bible was written, because there are thousands of studies and resources on the topic now. It is entirely up to you to believe or not. What baffles me is how people are dying to know the credibility of the Bible, but you’re not questioning who writes your horoscope or people’s interpretations of tarot card readings!

Anyway. Because I am a seeker of truth, I have actually read the Bible. That’s what this video is about. I go through it and logically challenge the things written in the Bible. I actually test out the claims that are made like any other wisdom or self-help book.

The key is I did it with an open mind. I didn’t go in with a bias wanting to hate what it said. I don’t read other books with a chip on my shoulder so that’s what I did here. It’s a great entry episode if you’ve heard about Christianity, but never opened the Bible yourself.

How to Be a Real Christian

This is a favorite topic of mine. Christians get a bad rap simply because most people have never met a real Christian. Yup! You read that correctly. Most of the Christians you meet are like people who say they have a gym membership, but they go max once a month and don’t look any better.

I’m not saying it to be mean. I go to church with many of them.

This is a powerful episode where I clarify why Christianity is not this rule-bound “no fun” religion it seems to be promoted as. As a matter of fact, I tell you why it’s not really a religion.

This episode should be easier to take in if you already consider yourself a spiritual person. Identifying that way, you realize that we are more than just a body, we have a soul that interacts with things spiritually. With that in mind, this will introduce you to the supernatural.

Real Christianity is not a religion, because we are talking about being changed by supernatural forces.

Feel free to jump around. I answer a lot of questions here. I start by introducing the “rules” of other religions and belief systems, who Jesus claimed to be, the concept of the Trinity, how one can identify a real Christian and so much more!

A good God wouldn’t send me to hell

You can’t talk about real Christianity without talking about Hell. It’s a topic that bothers many people and they deem it unfair, so I spend a whopping 20 minutes talking about world religions and their belief in the afterlife. If you think the idea of hell and eternal judgment is unfair, DO NOT skip it.

I then dive into the concept of good vs bad people and justice. I’m a logical person, so I simply present the contradictory beliefs we hold at the same time to get you to understand that denying hard things doesn’t make them go away. Now you’re just living in denial.

So I bring up the hard case of who’s law did Nazi Germany break? If they didn’t break their own, why did we think they were so bad? I talk about the Nuremberg Trials and under what law they found the Nazis as being guilty.- Powerful stuff.

I briefly describe heaven and hell according to the Bible with a few verses (there is so much more we don’t know). And then I finish off with a personal story that I believe can resonate with many people.

If you do finish this one and are feeling down. Make sure you don’t miss the next one.

Salvation

If the idea of being judged scares you, the inevitable question becomes, “How can I escape it?” or “How can I be saved?”

Many, many people have heard that Jesus died on the cross for their sins. The problem is, that doesn’t mean anything. Hopefully from the last episode, you realize you are a sinner and thus guilty in the eyes of God for breaking His law. When someone is guilty a price must be paid.

Because God is a holy and perfect God, only a perfect sacrifice would do. That is why Jesus came down to die. To take on the sins of the world so that we could live eternally with Him. We were created for His glory, so He wants us to be with Him.

God can not look upon sin. Jesus is our go-between. That is why to be truly saved, one must believe on Jesus. He is the Only Way.

I walk you through the meaning and process in this video.

Next Steps

Being a Christian is not an easy task as I hope you have learnt from the last video, but some things make life easier.

  1. You NEED a Bible
    • This is a non-negotiable. You know those affirmations you used to tell yourself every morning? Replace them with the Word of God. You NEED to be spending time in it every, single, day. This is where you will learn God’s promises, character and the truths to make better decisions in life.
  2. Join a church
    • We were created for community. Jesus had 12 disciples. It is these people that you will lean on when times get tough. We are more than friends, we are apart of the family of God
    • * Significant note- You WILL be hurt in the church. People are flawed and make mistakes. The devil and his demons also go to church. They go to stir up envy and strife. Do NOT LET THEM DEFEAT YOU.
  3. PRAY!!
    • Another non-negotiable. You don’t know how, you say. Just do it. Prayer is spiritual. The Holy Spirit will help you. He will see the desires in your heart and speak to the Father for you. This is the most powerful and underutilized tool Christians have. Pray without ceasing.

Go with God on your journey! God will bring people to you along the way. I am always here as well.

With brotherly/sisterly love,

Nefreteri
